The Royal Family

The Danish Royal House can be traced back to Gorm den Gamle (Gorm the Old) and his son Harald Blåtand (Harald Blue Tooth). The two great lineages in the Danish Royal House are the House of Oldenburg and the House of Glücksburg. The House of Oldenburg occupied the throne from 1449 to 1863. The last monarch from this lineage was King Frederik VII who never had any children.

In 1863, the House of Glücksburg took over the throne and this lineage has continued to stay in power up until today, giving the name to our present Royal Family.

Please take a look at the profiles of today's Royal Family.
